October 2017 Golf Notes by Tom Burrington

September: best month of the year. Great weather; great events; great friends and great golf. The men concluded their league play with the Bump and Run Team of Tim Hutchins, Floyd Dickinson, Lonnie Hutchins, Bob Deforge and Tom Burrington hanging on to take first flight honors, and the Sandbaggers made up of Arnie Ashford, Brian Martel, Doug Gloor, Mario Leclerc and Gary Blow claiming second flight bragging rights.

We also held our Mixed Couples tournament. A flight low net went to Sam and Doreen Palmisano and low gross to Floyd Dickinson and Judy Ribolini. B flight winners were Mike and Lisa Blanchet with low net, and low gross honors went to Scott Cameron and Patty Baroudi.

We also were the host of the VT Elks Association Interlodge golf tournament in September. Your home team of Tim Hutchins, Floyd Dickinson, Sean Hoar and Tom Burrington came in with the low score of 12 under, but the real winner was Silver Towers. A big thank you to all who helped make this another successful event (special thanks to Kevin Goss and Karen Lafrenniere for working the grill).

As we head into the final month of our golf season, let’s keep the momentum going. October events include:
Ryder/Solheim matches on the 7th and 8th (a ton of fun - sign up in the Pro Shop), a work bee on the 14th (signup sheet in the pro shop), and our equipment fund Calcutta the night of the 14th (very important event, please consider supporting your golf course by purchasing a ticket from the Pro Shop OR Golf Committee members).

This year we are going to close out the season with a new event that is a little out of the box but should prove to be a great time. After the Elks breakfast on October 22nd, we will be holding a new tournament we are calling the Heckler Open. It will be a 4 person, blind draw scramble tournament with two 4 person teams per tee box. Its only $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Open to both women and men. As you can probably deduce from the tournament name, golf etiquette will not be the focus of the day. So come join us and let out all your golfing frustrations from this season, but bring the proper attitude because there will be no complaint box.

In closing, the Golf Committee would like to recognize the efforts of Steve Craddock. All the recently trimmed trees you see on the course are a result of Steve seeing a need and stepping up to take action. Thank you Mr. Craddock.

Golf on!

Women's Golf Notes

The Ladies League held a meeting following the final night of league play and elected officers for the coming year. Patty Baroudi was elected President, Pam Boyd Secretary, Deb Lefebvre will continue as Treasurer. A new committee was formed for the Ladies Golf Association to plan for the next season. Many thanks go to Judy Ribolini and Pam Fecteau for their dedication running the Ladies League--Pam Fecteau has served for the past few years and Judy has run the league for many years.

Montpelier Elks Country Club won the Vermont State Womens Golf Association Division III Mae Murray Jones Trophy. VSWGA State Day players Patty Baroudi, Stephanie Venema, Louise Lapoint, Valerie Goff, and Pam Boyd all scored points throughout the season to contribute. Pam won most lowered handicapped in her division. WAY TO GO!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL.
